So I managed to complete all work needed to be done this 3day weekend. Finished projects, finished homework, organized some due dates and fun stuff like that /s. I realized that I'm now really bored; I was just about to go play DS or something, but remembered that this blog has been untouched for a while. There were also some notes I had jotted down for post content. So here we go fleshing those out.
Have you ever read posts/comments online that use abbreviations and then define the abbreviation? Even if its a one sentence post, they will use an abbreviation followed by what it stands for. To me, this seems ridiculous. IMHO (in my humble opinion), abbreviations are used to shorten a body of text. Thus, abbreviations should only be needed when the abbreviated term/word will be used more than once. Otherwise, AFAIK (as far as I know), if the term is used only once, what's the point in abbreviating it in the first place? Isn't that just more work? And consequently, doesn't that just defeat the purpose of abbreviation?
I can slightly understand the reverse order though, when someone uses a term/word and then specifies its abbreviation. When used in this manner, it seems like the writer is saying, "It's OK to use this abbreviation in the future." (Because many things should not be abbreviated [BMTSNBA]) So, should the need arise for the term to be used again, it can be. But doing it the other way around seems like a waste of time. Bah, what do I know about efficiency, right?
Moving along: I recently went back and skimmed some of my older posts - most of them quite absurd and meaningless, once you think about it. Something I've noticed is that I often ignore certain contradictions to my arguments for the sake of keeping a coherent argument. (Even though, technically it becomes flawed in doing so). And I was thinking maybe I should have a visual marker when I do things like that. Because, of course, I don't want people to think that I'm ignorant. I know very well that there are counter-points that would totally destroy my content. But if I acknowledged those points, I would have nothing to type.
So maybe I could like... mark any flawed logic in the future... a different color text? But that's kinda annoying. Italics? Bold? Those don't work because sometimes I'll need those. Maybe a special character like {BI} for.... Being Ignorant. Well, we'll see what comes to mind when the time comes and I need to use a marker.
Until next time, enjoy life.
Oh yeah, the presidential inauguration is tomorrow isn't it... I'm glad I'm back home and don't have to deal with DC/surrounding area traffic for work this semester... have fun with that peoples!
